It is a large collage piece using frottage on newsprint. All patterns were found around Emily Carr University. There is a big vacancy on the top of the collage, originally because of running out of rubbings, but since the collage is representing a figure or spirit of ECU, I think vacancy can mean a life that needs more to fill in. Also there are some small colour pieces on the paper, that is the school logo.

For this project, I decided to do a drawing combining women’s beauty with Japanese style. When I started the drawing, I had no idea what to draw. Then a ballerina came pass through my mind. Women figures can be real beauty, especially ballerinas. Because of lack of preparation, I used cartridge paper for my drawing. This is the biggest failure of the piece. Although to draw a figure and background was also hard work, the paper I chose to do the drawing was not appropriate for my intention for the work. I wanted to show the ballerina’s elegance body, but she does not fit the room (interior space out of the body).

 

 

For the 2D to 3D project, I decided to use an oil painting by Henri Fantin-Latour, (Nasturtiums, 1880) as a base idea of my 3D project. Since it is a very serious, and realistic oil painting, I wanted it to be more interesting and childish delighted. I like flowers very much and that is one reason that I chose the flower still life painting as the base. Adding more "originality" to it, I used an album cover by a Taiwanese band, Soda-green as another idea. There are many geometrical shapes and really delightful colours in the cover. Therefore, I decided to make the flower part into little pieces of wood in geometry patterns. 

 

It is a wax fish body grow from a red rose. The blood on fish creates a sense of hopeless because before it was due, all casting pieces were crashed into pieces and can't be fixed. Inspired by: Ninagawa Mika's photographing.
